Tom Selleck was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1945 and moved to Los Angeles when he was just a kid. He attended Grant High School and graduated in 1962. Selleck has two brothers, Robert and Daniel, as well as a sister, Martha. His father was a real estate investor and executive. He majored in Business Administration at the University of Southern California and played on the basketball team. He attended USC on a basketball scholarship. While in college, the school’s drama coach thought Selleck should give acting a try, which got him to go on to the Beverly Hills Playhouse to study acting with Milton Katselas. He also did some modeling through his college years.

In 1970, Tom married model Jacqueline Ray and adopted her son, Kevin. The marriage lasted 12 years until their divorced in 1982. Tom then met Jillie Mack who he married in 1987, in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Jillie Mack Sellack hails from Devizes, Wiltshire, England and they and have one child together, a daughter named Hannah. Hannah is an equestrian and is the winner of the Summer Classic II Grand Prix, and the Double Gold in the 2008 North American Jr. Young Rider Championships.

Selleck enjoys the outdoor life and would rather get his exercise working on his avocado farm than in a fitness gym. The Sellecks have two homes in California and a summer home in Jonesboro, Maine. Tom Selleck is a sports lover and at one time was a minority owner of the Detroit Tigers. He also attends ice hockey games at the Staples Center, especially when the Los Angeles Kings are on the ice. Selleck is on the Board of Directors of the NRA and is their public spokesperson, and is also the spokesman for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. He has donated several guns to the National Rifle Association for their Real Guns for Reel Heroes exhibit in Virginia, at the National Firearms Museum.
