Penn Dayton Badgley was born on November 1, 1986, in Baltimore, Maryland. He grew up in Richmond, Virginia, where he attended Charles Wright Academy. His parents, Duff and Lynne Badgley, were both musicians, and Penn developed a love for music at an early age. He began playing the guitar and singing in a band when he was just 12 years old.

Career

Penn Badgley began his acting career in the early 2000s, with small roles in television series such as Will & Grace and The Young and the Restless. In 2006, he landed his breakthrough role as Dan Humphrey in the hit teen drama series Gossip Girl. The show, which aired for six seasons, was a massive success and helped to catapult Badgley to stardom.

Following the end of Gossip Girl in 2012, Badgley continued to work more in movies appearing in several films, including Easy A, Margin Call, and Greetings from Tim Buckley. He also starred in the short-lived series The Slap but it wasn’t until 2018 when he landed the lead role in the psychological thriller series You that he found another mainstream hit.

Badgley’s work on You has earned him critical acclaim, with many praising his performance as the charismatic and chilling stalker Joe Goldberg.

Penn Badgley is notoriously private about his personal life, but he has been in a long-term relationship with musician Domino Kirke since 2014. The couple married in 2017 and welcomed their first child together in 2020.

While filming Gossip Girl, he secretly dated his co-star Blake Lively for almost three years.

Badgley is also known for his activism and involvement in social justice causes. He has been a vocal advocate for issues such as climate change, gun control, and LGBTQ+ rights, and has worked with organizations such as The Climate Reality Project and Everytown for Gun Safety.
