Michael Douglas was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, the son of legendary movie actor Kirk Douglas and Bermudian actress Diana Dill. Douglas has won three Golden Globes and two Academy Awards, first as producer of 1975’s Best Picture, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and as Best Actor in 1987 for his role in Wall Street. In 2009 Douglas received the AFI Life Achievement Award. Douglas began his career co-starring with Karl Malden in the TV series The Streets of San Francisco from 1972 to 1976. Douglas formed a father/son relationship with the elder Malden until Malden’s death on July 1, 2009.
Michael Douglas rose to fame when he brought the play One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest to the movie screen. Douglas starred in a number of high profile films during his career, including The China Syndrome, Romancing the Stone, A Chorus Line, The Jewel of the Nile, Fatal Attraction, The War of the Roses, Basic Instinct, Wonder Boys, and Traffic. Douglas reprised his role as Gordon Gekko in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps with the original film’s director Oliver Stone, in 2010.
