Sir Michael Caine, born Maurice Joseph Micklewhite on 14 March 1933 in Rotherhithe, Bermondsey, London, is one of the most popular actors in England, and has not only been active in the entertainment industry since 1953, but is reputed to be the highest paid actor in the world.
Michael has been nominated for an Academy Award six times, two of which he won. He is also the winner of Golden Globe and BAFTA Awards as the Best Actor. Caine is also recognised as an author.
For the achievements of the lifetime, he has been honoured with the Commander of the Order of the British Empire, Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and a knighthood – Sir Maurice Micklewhite. In addition to all these honours, Caine has won a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award.
Michael Caine began his career with an uncredited role in the film “Panic in the Parlor” (1956) directed by Gordon Parry. For the first six years of his career he played only further small and uncredited roles in films.
In 1962, Caine landed his first main role in the film “Solo for Sparrow” directed by Gordon Flemyng. First critics acclaim, and a BAFTA Award for the Best British Actor Clain received after he landed the role of Harry Palmer in the film “The Ipcress File” (1965) directed by Sidney J. Furie.
