Born and raised in Kingsford on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Marty initially chose to be an engineer. Post Marty’s energy business career, he and his brother Rick came up with “The Curse of Oak Island”. Consequently, the brothers started searching for the treasures after the Prometheus Entertainment promoted the show. The brothers only gained national recognition after appearing in the reality series. In fact, the idea of the treasure hunting reality show had started with an obsession.

Marty Lagina is best known for starring in the History Channel reality TV series The Curse of Oak Island. Rick has been interested in Oak Island since he was a kid, but has also remained skeptical. The show features Marty and his brother Rick Lagina attempting to find buried treasure on Oak Island. Marty has been named as the one who is primarily financing the adventure on the island. The brothers have gained a controlling interest of Oak Island Tours. Outside of being a reality TV star, Marty is also a very successful businessman.

His company Terra Energy was a pioneer in extracting natural gas from shale in the 1990s. Marty eventually sold Terra Energy to a company called CMS Energy for $58 million. He then launched a new company called Heritage Sustainable.  Heritage is currently planning to build 60 wind turbines in Missaukee, Michigan. That will make Marty the largest wind-energy producer in the entire state of Michigan and one of the largest overall producers in the mid-west. The series The Curse of Oak Island debuted in 2014 and began its fifth season in 2017. Marty Lagina has also been an executive producer of the series and starred in the reality TV series The Curse of Oak Island: Drilling Down beginning in 2016.
