Stern began his radio career in college at Boston University, then made his professional debut at WNTN in Newton Massachusetts in 1975. Stern worked at various radio stations before eventually landing at WXRK in New York City where he worked for 20 years before switching to Sirius satellite radio in 2005.

On Sirius, Howard enjoys total uncensored free speech, outside of the FCC’s grasp. During Stern’s time at WXRK, he attracted peak audiences of close to 20 million across 60 markets in both the United States and Canada.
