Early Life: Eugene Allen “Gene” Hackman was born on January 30, 1930, in San Bernardino, California. Hackman lived briefly in Storm Lake, Iowa and spent his sophomore year at Storm Lake High School. At the age of 16, he left his home and joined US Marine Corps. He worked in corps until the year 1951. He moved to New York and worked in several jobs.
Career: Gene Hackman joined the Pasadena Playhouse in California to pursue the acting career. His first role was in Lilith, with Warren Beatty in the leading role. He gets first Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actor for Bonnie and Clyde (1967). I Never Sang for My Father, gets his second nomination for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award.
Gene Hackman’s most notable performances include his role as ‘Popeye’ Doyle in “The French Connection” in 1971, for which he won an Academy Award (Oscar) for Best Actor.
