Ezekiel Elijah Elliot was born on 22 July 1995, in Alton, Illinois USA, and is a professional American Football player, best known from playing in the National Football League (NFL), as a running back for the Dallas Cowboys.
Ezekiel grew up with parents who were previously very active in sports, especially during their collegiate years – his mother Dawn in track, and his father in football. He attended John Burroughs School, and during his time there, played basketball, football as well as track.
With the school’s football team, he played as a running back, and in 2012 earned an offensive player of the year award from the “St. Louis Post-Dispatch”. Thanks to his performance, the team went to three straight championship games, but was not able to win one.
He also did a lot of hurdling and sprinting events, which led him to be named Gatorade Track Athlete of the Year in Missouri. After matriculating, he was ranked as a four-star recruit and was later signed by Ohio State University.
During his college career, Elliot played as a backup and as a gunner on special teams. He then became the starter for the team in 2014, leading the team to get to the 2014 Big Ten Championship Game. They eventually went to the 2015 Sugar Bowl which they won, and he was named Offensive Player of the Game.
He ended his college career playing at the Fiesta Bowl. He received numerous awards at the end of his college career including a 2015 Graham-George Offensive Player of the Year and the 2015 Ameche-Dayne Running Back of the Year. He was also named Unanimous First Team All-Big Ten.
Ezekiel then declared for the 2016 NFL Draft, and was selected as the fourth overall pick by the Dallas Cowboys. He was also given a contract worth $24.9 million with a $16.3 million bonus which increased his net worth significantly. He performed well during his rookie season and the team would reach the playoffs where they eventually lost to the Green Bay Packers, and Elliot was in contention for the 2016 Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.
He was then suspended for the first six games of the following NFL season due to the personal conduct policy, arising from accusations of domestic violence from his ex-girlfriend.
