Carl Crawford was born in Houston, Texas in August 1981. At Jefferson Davis High School he lettered in baseball, football, and basketball. His senior year of high school Carl batted .638. He was offered a scholarship to play point guard for UCLA basketball, as well as to play football as an option quarterback for USC, Oklahoma, Florida, Nebraska, and Tulsa. Crawford was drafted in the second round by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft.
In 2002 he made his Major League debut for the Devil Rays. He played there until 2010 and signed with Boston Red Sox in 2011. In 2012 Crawford was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Crawford is an outfielder who bats and throws left handed.
He has been selected as an All-Star four times and is also a four time American League Stolen Base Champion. He tied the MLB record with 6 stolen bases in a single game in 2009. In 2009 Crawford was the All-Star Game MVP, and in 2010 he was awarded a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger. He has played internationally for the United States, where he won a silver medal in the 2001 Baseball World Cup. He became engaged to Evelyn Lozada in 2013 and the couple had a son.
